JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
Attorney: Qualified candidate who is responsible for managing the agency’s summary process actions for nonpayment of rent, nuisance cases and other lease violations. In addition, the Attorney is responsible for preparing and coordinating the agency’s defense against a variety of civil claims in conjunction with the Director of the Law Department.
The Attorney shall also assist with legal research and other special projects as requested. Finally, the Attorney shall be responsible for responding to all Freedom of Information Act requests, under the direction of the Director of the Legal Department and shall be the agency’s Freedom of Information Officer. This individual will be given the initiative to develop and pursue specific strategies for an aggressive program of risk management and defense against civil claims. A Juris Doctor and licensed to practice law in the State of Connecticut, with five years or more experience as an Attorney, including three or more years experience handling litigation matters (preferably Landlord/Tenant cases).
Knowledge of HUD policies and procedures and a background in affordable housing. Strong writing, negotiation, and verbal communication skills, with experience in computer word processing and database manipulation. Must possess excellent MS Office Suite applications’ skills. Knowledge of the principles and procedures of civil law, especially as they relate to Federal, State and municipal governments and public entities and the ability to apply this knowledge to legal problems in the areas of summary process and civil claims. Knowledge and understanding of local ordinances, State and Federal laws, regulations and constitutional provisions affecting Housing Authority operations in the areas of summary process and civil claims.
Must have the ability to listen and communicate with a broad range of individuals from a diverse population Cooperative and courteous to the public. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with officials and employees of the Housing Authority, other State and Federal agencies and the general public. Must be a team player. Able to work independently with minimal supervision, strong analytic and organizational skills. Possess a valid CT driver’s license and travel to various sites unaccompanied, as required.
Base Salary Range: $75,000 - $85,000 |
